Man Kills Best Friend, Takes His Car, Registers It in His Own Name in Ondo State
A man in Iyaganku, Ondo State confessed to the State’s Criminal Investigation Department to killing his best friend and taking his car in 2010.
In the case which was recently concluded, the man, Damilola Olusolade, was sentenced to death by hanging. Many who attended the court sessions were bewildered by how a best friend could turn out to be one’s worst enemy.
The court proceedings had been keenly followed by lawyers and law students. On June 7 this year-the final day for the case-the courtroom was filled to capacity. The victim, Ifedayo Adebisi’s family applauded the death sentence though they said no punishment would replace their lost son.
The convict confessed to strangling Ifedayo in 2009 December 9 and dumping his body along the expressway as the two travelled from Lagos. He then went and registered his late friend’s car in his own name and invited his friends to celebrate with him over purchase of a new car.
In his confession, the convict said Ifedayo had not offended him in any way and that he did not know what made him kill him, though the two were very close.
