A Senior Lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Dr. Gbenga Dally, who is also an Egba High Chief, and two other persons lost their lives in a multiple road crash, Wednesday evening, along the Abeokuta/Sagamu road.
Six passengers were also said to be at the state hospital where they are being treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
The accident was said to have occurred about 30 kilometres to Abeokuta, near Onipepeye village at about 6.25p.m and reportedly involved three vehicles— a Toyota Camry car with number plate LAGOS AAA 181 AA in which the late Akinfimogboye of Egbaland, drove.
One of the vehicles involved in the accident, it was learnt, skidded off the road after the driver lost control on his way to Lagos and crossed the culvert, facing another oncoming vehicle.
Dally, who was returning from the university, on getting to the scene attempted to avoid a head-on collision but an articulated truck crushed his car from behind, leading to his instant death, and that of two others whose cars had part of their roofs smashed.
Head of Operations, Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Cecilia Alao, who confirmed the accident yesterday, said it involved three vehicles and eight persons.
According to her, a Toyota Camry car with number plate LAGOS AAA 181 AA, Mitsubishi Space wagon OGUN LAR 55 XA and Honda car with number plate LAGOS KSF 224 AT, collided due to overspeeding.
She said the remains of the victims had been deposited at Ijaye General Hospital, Abeokuta, adding that six persons who sustained various degrees of injury were also receiving treatment at the hospital.
She therefore appealed to motorists to exercise patience and apply what she described as “common sense speed limit” while on the highway.
